Big Brother!!!

Yes, it's finally official and out for the world to know... we are ecstatic to announce that Colby will be a Big Brother!! I am 3 months pregnant and am due on September 30th! We are very excited about the addition to our family! Colby has been pretty cute with it... he doesn't really understand, but on occasion, he will point to my tummy when he's asked, "Where's the baby?" So cute! We will need to get him a pretend little baby to practice being gentle around. I don't think little boys at the age of 15 months have the word or meaning of "gentle" in their vocabulary quite yet! We'll see... I've been feeling fine, actually too fine. Already putting on the weight because I'm eating so much! Such is life being pregnant, I suppose!! :) Only more to come! I had my first prenatal appointment this afternoon and the baby's heartbeat was 170... very fast! Colby's also started out very high (in the 160's, I think). We'll see if the wives tales have anything to do with dictating the sex of the baby this time!

Colby is one crazy little boy... he is such a chatterbox, I love it! I just wonder what he is talking about all the time!! LOL! He surprises us with new things he can do all of the time! At my parents' house today, he was standing on the floor, and the next second, sitting up on a kitchen chair. He pulled himself up and got on the chair!! So quick, this one!!

We are trying to get somewhat organized for our San Diego Spring Break trip, but it's not going so well. The list is still very long... and we leave next Saturday morning. While I'm excited, there are other things that are quite draining right now, like report cards and Parent-Teacher Interviews next week. Can't wait for a wonderful holiday with just the three of us!

Anyway, we are going to a wedding this weekend and Colby is going for a sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa's. He absolutely loves playing there, so it will be a nice change for him. He'll have fun there... I'm just crossing my fingers he sleeps well, too!! Have a great rest of the week, everyone!

'lil reader

As you can see from the new picture on the sidebar, Colby is loving books these days! It is so cute how he "reads" his books to us!! I love it... especially with my profession and all!! Good model for my students to do their home reading too, I'd say! Start young, right?!

So... you can tell it's report card time again in my world because I'm sick... again! Ugh... to be honest, I don't think my sinus thing fully went away from last time! Hopefully soon now that the stress of writing report cards are now done! Yippee!! We haven't been up to much lately with the cold snap and my busy schedule with report cards. I can't believe how quickly the year is going by... we are already half way through March! Things upcoming that we are looking forward to are a visit from Gerry's sisters and their kids this weekend for Emerson's baby shower, a wedding next weekend of a colleague from Entwistle, and our upcoming trip to San Diego on the 28th!!!

Colby is growing like crazy and developing his attitude just as quickly, I think! He is a stubborn little boy, but I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree on that one! His mommy can be a little stubborn too (sometimes!!) Anyway, we had to find a new dayhome... (yes, AGAIN!!) because Becky got a job outside of the home. We are very sad because she is absolutely amazing and Colby loves it there with Connor and all of the other kids. Luckily, I think we've figured out something with my cousin watching him from April until June. Just poor timing... wish we could've finished off the year.

Anyway, short little post today! I'm off to bed... it's WAY past my 9:00 bedtime!! Have a great weekend everyone. It looks like the weather is turning around for us! Yay!

Hugs,
Lesley

10 Things...

So, nowadays on Facebook, it seems that everyone is writing "Random things about me", so I thought it'd be fun to do a few about Colby!

1. Colby has the most beautiful blue eyes ever. I love them! Everywhere we go, it's the first thing anyone comments on, even complete strangers, but especially little old ladies!

2. Colby is a climber. This is why we call him our "little monkey". He will try to climb onto anywhere he sets his mind to. This includes from his table stool, onto the table, then onto the couch, or even standing on the windowsill!

3. Colby is a big boy... he has always been in the 75th to 90th percentile for his height and weight (even off the charts for height a few times in the past year!) Maybe he'll be over 6 feet tall one day...

4. Colby is a soother junkie. We are trying to break him of this habit and he now gets it only at naptime and bedtime, but it is very difficult!! He would have it all day everyday if we would let him.

5. Colby's idea of dancing is SO adorable! It consists of bouncing up and down or spinning in circles when he hears music, especially Farmer Tad's fridge farm magnet songs!!

6. Colby is going to be a techie of some sort one day, I think. He is interested in anything electronic... Wii remotes, TV remotes, computer keyboard, turning on and off the satellite and TV... and the list goes on!

7. Colby LOVES fruits much more than vegetables. But most of all, he LOVES meat! He would eat all meat for supper if we let him, I'm sure.

8. Colby is starting to "talk" a bit more now... he has surprised us with a small phrase "Daddy go dere" one day! He loves saying "Daddy", "dis" and "dat" as he points to things we describe to him. I love having our daily conversations!

9. Colby likes to take towers apart more than he likes to build them. One day maybe he'll want to actually build instead of tear down!!

10. Colby is loved SO much by his Mommy, Daddy, rest of the family and friends!! He is beginning to "play" with others much better lately, especially Landon (cousin) and Connor (cousin at the dayhome). It's great to see him interacting with other kids so often!!

Just a few things you might have already known or now you do know! Colby is a wonderful little boy and we are so lucky and proud to be his parents!

Hope your March is off to a good start, everyone! Things are very busy right now with report cards and IPP reviews at school, but thankfully, Gerry is helping out around the house a ton and spending lots of time with Colby so I can get work done at home. Thank goodness for a wonderful husband like him!! Take care!

Growing up!!

I'm getting really bad at this blog posting thing!! Sorry! It seems I always forget about it and when I do, I'm too tired to sit down and write about the events in our lives! So... here it goes!

Colby is doing really well at the new dayhome! She lives just around the corner from us, so I'm so happy to be spending very little time in my car these days! For the first few days, he must've sensed that something was up because he didn't want to nap! Silly kid... made for some interesting evenings at home with him. Too little sleep during the day meant some very early mornings again! But he settled back into his routine after a few days and is now back to sleeping for his couple of hours in the afternoon. Must be a nice break for Becky! My cousin's son, Connor, also goes to the dayhome, which Colby loves!! They "play" really well together apparently, which is great! That's a far cry from how Landon and Colby "play" together, so I'm glad these two are getting along well! You know he likes it there when he doesn't want to come home when I get there! He cries, kicks, and avoids putting on his jacket at all costs. He sure loves his Auntie Becky!!

Colby continues to amaze us and seems more grown up each and every day. He's talking up a storm lately (although, not as much around other people). It's so cute!! Yesterday, we were at Home Depot and Gerry went down an aisle with a Home Depot guy and Colby said "Daddy go dere!" SO cute!! I was a little shocked, but loved it! He's also very affectionate these days and will now give hugs and kisses when you ask him! Melts my heart every time!! Swimming lessons are going ok... the past two weeks have had us in the deep pool, which he's not a huge fan of because of the temperature change! It's pretty cold in there! On Saturday, we were in the very deep end and he went off the diving board already!! Okay, well, I picked him up and handed him to the instructor in the water, but still, off the diving board! At age 1... crazy!

Gerry is working hard on the basement and is now working on the wood inside the windows and the ledge on the front bay window. We need to start looking at carpet... I just found out how long it takes it to be ordered! Ugh... going to be a long road ahead still. I can't wait for it to be ready for some playtime down there!!

School is going alright... I'm very tired at the end of my day, but am so thankful to live so close to the school. My kids are generally pretty good, just a few that like to make my life difficult. Such is life in any classroom, I suppose! The last weekend of January, I went on a scrapbooking retreat at Rustic Ridge Ranch and Lodge!! Such a great time with some fun ladies! There were 9 of us there at this gorgeous ranch that was a bed and breakfast! Despite the freezing room temperature in the middle of the night (thanks to the veranda door opening!), we had a great time filled with lots of scrapbooking, laughing, and delicious homemade meals! It was very productive too... I finished 25 pages in Colby's album! Yay!!

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new niece or nephew! My sister-in-law, Tracy, is now 8 days overdue, so we want that baby to come out soon and meet the world!! Can't wait to meet you, baby!!

I think that's about it for now... I know I say this every time, but I'm really going to try and post more often! Take care! Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day. Enjoy Family Day!!! I sure wish the weather was a bit warmer so we could enjoy the outdoors this weekend... no such luck! :(

2 years old or 1 year old?!?!

I know it's been a very long time since my last post, but things are crazy... okay, continue to be crazy! When are they not?? I've been super busy at school and have had many late nights going back to school after Colby goes to bed. He begins going to the new dayhome on Monday morning, which is just around the corner from us. I'm excited to not be spending so much time in the car driving back and forth, but will really miss Amie's care! She's an amazing person and I know Colby absolutely adores it there! He loves playing with Karter so much and I know he will miss him. I don't think I could've convinced her to move closer to us... hmmmm.....

Colby is growing up so quickly and some days I feel like I have a 2 year old and not a 1 year old!! He can be trouble, I tell you! LOL! He is beginning to know what he's not allowed to do and what we say "No" to, but he will do it anyway! He has had a couple of timeouts in the past couple of days for his behavior, especially the beating-up of his cousin, Landon. I don't know what it is with those two, but they play so rough!! My philosophy is that they are more like brothers than cousins (so close in age and in size, too!) Hopefully this is just a phase!? On the positive side, he is definitely developing and displaying his personality! He is so funny! I love listening to his words... Colby can say a few more words now, including uh oh, this, that, look, go, and his newest one today that he discovered with "Ring Around the Rosy".... down. I love it! So cute! He is doing really well with mealtimes now... much better than this time last month! In his big high chair, he was throwing food, playing around, not eating, etc., so we moved him to a booster seat and he sits right up at the table with us. This completely changed things! He eats nicely, there's next to no food on the floor, and mealtime is much more pleasant these days! He's doing very well with eating with his spoon and fork, too! It's very cute, even though it takes forever for him to eat yogurt with his spoon! But amazing to see his level of independence at the ripe age of 13 1/2 months! He's running everywhere and down to one nap a day, which is much nicer!! We can do more things in the morning and not have to come home for a nap. He has also been sleeping much better at night and not having a hard time falling asleep at night anymore! Thank goodness!

There is a cold bug going through our house right now... I have a brutal cold and Colby has a touch of it too, making his nose a constant fountain! Hopefully it'll leave soon!!

I'm going away for the first time in a very long time for an entire weekend! I'm pretty nervous and worried about missing my two favourite boys, but am excited for the weekend. I am going to a scrapbooking retreat with some other wonderful ladies at a lovely bed and breakfast west of the city. I'm so excited to catch up on some girly time AND be productive in Colby's album!! :) Crossing my fingers for the creativity to be flowing!! Our swimming lessons continue to go very well and Colby is really enjoying it! He's a little fish, so loves any time to play in the water. It will be Daddy and Colby swimming this weekend, as I'll be away. I'm sure they'll have fun!

We are making some small headways in the development of the basement, which is exciting! It's so hard to find time to do things in the evenings! Gerry finished painting downstairs this week, so now it's time to talk to some people about carpet. I'm really excited to have a "useable" space for Colby to play soon. I know we are a long way from being done, but each step brings us a little bit closer!

I guess I should wrap up the novel... hope everyone is doing well. I'll let you know how the retreat goes... I'm hoping my sister-in-law, Tracy, will have the baby this weekend (as she had her first one 21 months ago while I was at another scrapbooking retreat!!)

Love,
Lesley

Can't keep up!

I know, I know, I've been terrible at keeping up with my blog posts! Such is life as a full-time working teacher mom. It seems what little time I have after Colby goes to bed at night is spent quickly doing some housework, planning, and marking! I don't know how moms do it with more than one child!

We have had a great start to 2009! Colby continues to amaze and surprise us everyday! He is learning so much and it's so much fun to play and talk with him. He now puts his clothes in his laundry hamper and also puts his diapers in the diaper pail! What a little helper he is! :) We started swimming lessons last Saturday morning and they have been going very well. It's a big class (10 kids - 9 boys and 1 girl), and the goal is to get the kids feeling comfortable in the water. Colby's having no troubles with this - he's a fish already!! He doesn't mind putting his face in the water or having water poured over his head! It's so cute. He likes to just go, go, go (as usual), so it's been a transition to teaching him to do the activities of the class and "let's listen to our swimming teacher". He's a very busy boy... I wish I had half his energy! Not only is he a fish, but he's also a huge climber! He has been climbing on things for a while now, but it seems to be faster and on top of everything these days! He has even climbed into the dishwasher when it was open (onto the lid)! He has a foam table with two stools and he tries to climb on top of the stool and then up onto the table. Crazy kid. Never a dull moment in our house!

Colby had a rough week last week with teething... he has never really been bothered by teething before, but one of his molars sure gave him some trouble! He now has 10 teeth. I hate to see him in that pain... no sleeping, drooling, diaper rash, sometimes not eating as much. Not so fun. Anyway, 2 of the 4 have come through and he's back to normal now. Just some drooling, but all in all, much happier!

Our great friends, Jen and Dave, came to babysit last night! They came out about 6 and stayed with Colby so Gerry and I could go on a bit of a date. It was a pretty quiet evening - just a really nice dinner and then home early (since Colby is not a kid who likes to sleep in very late!!). They said he was really good for them, which I was very happy about. Maybe next time, we'll leave them with Colby for a bit longer (while he's awake!) We haven't gone out on a 'date' since Colby was born... so very long overdue! It's just so hard to find the time to do it! Thanks to Jen and Dave's offer, we had some great conversation, just the two of us!

My parents are now back from the Dominican, which is so great! We really missed them! It's amazing how long a week can seem without Grandma and Grandpa home! So glad they had a wonderful trip and that the wedding was beautiful too. They sure deserve it!

One more piece of exciting news!!! Gerry, Colby and I are going to San Diego, California, on March 28th!! We are going for 5 days over Spring Break and are SO excited for our trip away!! We didn't have a very great beginning of the school year (or fall in general), so we thought we deserve a nice trip away as a family!

We're not up to much else... days and weeks seem to fly by and my to-do list never seems to get shorter. One of these days, right? Maybe in the summer I'll tackle some of those things! We are definitely enjoying the beautiful spring-like weather these past couple of days! We went out for a sleigh ride today and did some more shovelling on the driveway. SO gorgeous outside! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone!

Love,
Gerry, Lesley and Colby

Already over?!?

Wow... 2008 is almost over! Where did it go?! I cannot believe how quickly time flies... those of you who read my blog regularly will know that I mention that a lot! Must be a mom thing, as time seems to fly by much faster now that I have a little man in my life!!

We had a wonderful Christmas season again this year. We went up to Grande Prairie on Christmas Eve and spent a few days there. It was definitely different not being at home for Christmas this year, but good to see a lot of Gerry's extended family, as we don't see them very often. Colby had a rough couple of nights sleeping (or lack thereof) up there, so the past couple of days have been "catch up days". We headed home on Boxing Day and unpacked from Christmas #1. Saturday, Dec. 27th was Christmas Day again for us! We spent the day with my family for our Christmas, which was great!! The kids were definitely spoiled and it's so great to see the magic of Christmas in their eyes! We opened gifts, had dinner, hung out and played a couple of games. Colby decided he didn't want to go to sleep at Grandma and Grandpa's, so he was up until we left!! Crazy boy! I love Christmas, but can't believe how quickly it passes once it finally arrives!!

We have had a couple of quiet days at home since then. We took down the Christmas decorations, cleaned up, and are working on organizing the house. Colby's toys are taking up more and more room and we can't wait to finish the basement! He needs more room to run and play! Last night, Gerry and I did the first coat of paint in the spare (scrapbooking) room downstairs!! It's so exciting to see more progress and we absolutely LOVE the color!! It's a bright aqua-bluey color... very hard to describe, but so inspiring and fun!! We're hoping to continue pushing ahead with the basement development. It's all about finding time, which is difficult!! Not sure how to find more of it.... hmmm.....

I am enjoying my second week of vacation at home and love spending time with Colby! We're playing, playing, and more playing all around the house. I love watching him play with his new toys and "driving" his cars, trucks, quad, airplane.... (and the list goes on) all around. It's so cute how he makes the 'driving' sounds, too! Colby did his first coloring yesterday with his new Crayola TaDoodles crayons, so that was fun. He tried to eat them, so we need to convince him somehow that crayons are not food (like most other things he tries to eat!!) I am not looking forward to tomorrow's 1 year immunizations, but luckily they're tomorrow night, so Gerry is coming along too. I look forward to ringing in the New Year on Wednesday night with friends at Jen and Dave's house! Should be fun at the New Year's Eve Red Carpet Gala!! :)

Happy New Year, everyone! Wishing you all the best in 2009!
Love,
Gerry, Lesley and Colby
